Michael Phelps is an absolute stud. He's in the same category as Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Joe Montana, and Babe Ruth.

I just watched him win his first gold medal at these Olympics.

Just for future reference. The West coast is 2-3 hours behind you on the tapings---so don't post results too early. It spoils it. Or at least post a warning!

No chance he is in Jordan's league!

I have a feeling "Jordan's league" has been built up so high that Jordan would not be in his own league. The beauty of selective memory.

Jordan is in a league of his own, and his on court accomplishments have little to do with it...not only did he revolutionize the game of basketball in America...more imprtantly he globalized the game of basketball...

Anonymous if you added synergy you might have completed the cliche trifecta!
I am a huge Jordan fan but I am also a realist which makes me avoid phrases like League of his own and makes me think that perhaps David Stern, Dirk, Yao and others have had a hand in the Globalization of the game (Present tense not past). I am curious now Jordan actually REVOLUTIONIZED the game. Creating the overhand shot, the dunk the alley opp, all seem like revolutions to the game. I guess we could say sticking you tongue out which every kid did when playing in the Jordan era, but I don't know that it Revolutionized the game.

Kyle-I disagree with you on this on, but I could be wrong...Jordan was the first guard who became one of the best post players ever to play the game...he was amazing with his back to the basket...becase of this many teams have guards as their first post option...

Stern, Yao, Dirk, and many others have had a huge impact on the globalization of the NBA, but I personally believe Jordan was the central figure in all of this...1992 in Barcelona obviously comes to mind...

I watch it and thought he was incredible.
I really have been enjoying the Olympics.
So if I don't blog much it is because I am watching the games.

Oh by the way I was wondering if you are teaching a class at the Summit in Abilene. Let me know so I can add you to the list of speakers or class teachers.

Josh I hope you have a wonderful week brother and enjoy the games.

One friend called me today to strongly object putting Phelps in the same sentence with the esteemed group of Jordan, Montana, et al.

Why? Because "Phelps is a swimmer."

Hmmm...I disagree.
