NBA, Money

The NBA season is underway, which means my ongoing struggle with addiction to pro basketball is “ever before me”—to quote David from Psalm 51.

Here are my picks:

Detroit vs. Chicago in the Eastern Conference Finals

San Antonio vs. Dallas in the Western Conference Finals

San Antonio vs. Detroit in the Finals.

Detroit over San Antonio in seven games. My loyalty knows no bounds.

Thiss weekend, I’m teaching on Paul’s troublesome phrase in his letter to Timothy that “the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”

Do you believe that? Was Paul speaking in hyperbole?

Detroit in the finals, I agree...

but please....no San Ant, we've seen that enough. I will say Dallas.

Love of money...yep, I agree its evil. Its identifying if you are in love with the "reward" or the challenge that I see as difficult.

I say that because I see the "love" of many things as equally destructive. Attention, consuming, power, relief outlets, etc...

Getting attention, consuming things, etc.. are not wrong in and of themselves...its the love part.

Personally, I dont see "every" rich person as "loving money" though I will agree it is a vast majority.

Good topic

My NBA picks:
Detroit and Celtics (I believe the hype): Detroit advancing

San Antonio and PHX: SA advancing

Adam I agree with you, we've seen enough of SA. But they are GOOD!

Adam you also make some great points about the love of money!

Adam:

Good thoughts. I'll be interested in what you have to say after church tomorrow!

Ash:

Are you taking SA or DET in the Finals? I'm guessing SA, but am hoping that DET finds a way to surprise us all.

NO reason why San Antonio won't be there again, and sadly I don't think there is a reason why Detroit WILL be there again. I assume that Chicago or Celtics should be the early season favorites though I think that the Eastern Conference is level enough that one major deadline trade could change a lot (Kobe has to go somewhere right?)

Love of money...I guess I struggle with the definition. I love my wife, I love The Lord, but I also Love Taco Bell and driving to the perfect driving music.
I would not say every rich person loves money but I someones I wonder how they could not. and when I say they in reference to Rich people I am reminded that by all standards I , as well as all who are probably reading this, would be considered rich. That makes it more difficult .

Personally, I don't like how the Pistons matchup with Boston. Who can stop Garnett on our team? I like the Celtics and Spurs with the Spurs taking it all.

Getting to Paul's "love of money" comments, I view it as it reads. He's not talking about money being inherently wrong. It is the love part that is key to the statement. Where are the priorities in our lives? Is money after God, family, church, and local community?

Do people abuse money? You bet. However, some are very wise with donating it and can use their social status to better causes.

I think it can be correlated with what Paul said about stumbling blocks. God knows that money causes certain people to sin, but it's not that way for others.
