Prayer for the Senate

Tomorrow morning, I'm offering the opening prayer for the Michigan State Senate in Lansing. Alan Sanborn, a state senator who is a part of our church family, recently invited me.

In your estimation, the culturally savvy Christian engaged with the world, . . . what would you pray about were you in my shoes?

This is definitely an excellent opportunity, and I do not think I would go the route of the Kansas State prayer that is circulating on the internet. My inclination would be to operate on a very personal level. A prayer that encourages the lawmakers to be honest and faithful to their personal convictions or belief systems regardless of party affiliation or personal agenda. Hope that makes sense. Good luck, and keep up the excellent writing!

Josh,

Thanks for the note. I will stay away from being partisan . . . your suggestion has much wisdom. Thanks for the note.

I think I might add that God has appointed/allowed these people to lead our country and that is a great honor to be put in a position of leadership. May the wisdom of our heavenly father be used as we face hard decisions that affect the common good of our fellow citizens and country.

I know you'll come up with something sincere and great, I just think it's good to remember that even God appoints those who lead us and govern over us. Isn't that why we are asked to obey the laws of the land?

Hope you are well! Take care.

If I were you, I would focus on the word "power."

Just a note of advice, from the words of a well-known preacher in the south, "Don't mess this up."
