He Sent Them to Galilee . . .

“Only novels know of time machines reversing the tides of the centuries. The myth of a return to the golden age is more pagan than Christian. Christ did not leave his disciples with a promise to lead them back to the Garden of Eden. He sent them to Galilee . . . to the world of humble tasks, trials, sickness, sorrows which he had encountered in his ministry, and to the hopes, struggles, and expectations of common folk," Lucien Legrand in The Bible on Culture

Josh,

I wonder at baptism, if we said after “I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit;” we said “now you are to go into your community to spend time with those trapped in the bondage of sin, you are have a passion for the suffers around you, you are to be actively involved in the social issues that advance the kingdom of God; you are to live life by the Spirit and you are to always seek the interest of others before yourself.” I wonder if this would have a significant impact on the one being baptized or the ones witnessing the act.

Josh,
Excellent post.
I believe that Jesus first and foremost wants us as disciples to make disciples. I think we have in the past dunked so many people and left them all all on their own. It is my pray that we will in the 21st century not just baptize but truely make authentic committed disciples and believers of Jesus. Josh God bless you for discussing the topics that need to be mentioned. I enjoy reading your blog and hope God will bless you in all of your writtings. We need to understand in this 21st century in which we are living that baptism doesn't save. It is faith in Christ.
