Bisons, Oil

Here's how we do it in Lipscomb Land (no retreat, no surrender). This is from the AP. Should I be proud to be an alumnus?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Lipscomb came within a point of setting the Division I women's record for biggest winning margin with a 123-22 rout of Fisk on Tuesday night.

With the 101-point victory, the Lady Bisons were a point short of the mark set by Grambling against Jarvis Christian on Feb. 12, 1986.

Valerie Bronson scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Bisons (1-2), who shot 57 percent from the field. Cree Nix added 14.

Tia Williams had eight points to lead Fisk (0-2), which was 9-for-54 from the field.

Lipscomb out rebounded Fisk 67-19 and led 61-10 at the half.

Can someone, with more industry savvy than me, explain why gas is rising and will rise to $4 a gallon this summer? I'm going to start riding my bike--even if it is twenty degrees this winter.

I was watching ESPNEWS early this morning and they had a brief segment on this. As an LU Alum, I wasnt sure whether to be proud or embarrassed. They did say that Lipscomb's bench had nearly 90 points, so I guess there is some solace in that...

Gas prices are a ton of fun! I am not claiming to be an expert but the price of oil has been hitting record highs $90/barrel+ Thust eh record high gas prices.
It seems to come down to how much oil we have access to (who we are friends with in the Middle east) how much oil they have (or THINK they have) and how much we consume (as well as countries like China that are demanding quite a bit of oil as well)
I am reading a book right now called
"The Coming Economic Collapse: How You Can Thrive When Oil Costs $200 a Barrel"
It is written buy a guy that predicted 15-20 years ago that oil would be $100+ by 2010. A little bit of a dry read (who am I kidding...it is a little bit of dry LISTEN) but it is very interesting! Interesting if you like Doomsday economic discussion.

In summation, if we can find a new source of energy, that would be great!

If we were allowed to drill our own oil prices would be reduced quite a bit. The Chinese are drilling our oil by camping right off Cuba, within a quarter mile of our waters, and drilling on a slant. Our enviro-wackos won't let us drill, build nuclear power stations, or even put alternative energy plants near them (Kennedy and Walter Cronkite nixed the wind farm planned for Martha's Vineyard since it would lower their property values).

Add to that that China is building a new coal fired power plant every three days, India's need for oil has tripled in the last five years, etc. and you can see the problem.

I would imagine a huge factor is the explosion of consumerism and greed, not only in our country, but around the world. It seems as though America is exporting it's "want for more" at a greater rate than the ideals of liberty.
America is a great country, but sometimes I wonder how often our overseas endeavors are more nationalistic than we care to admit.
I wonder if gas prices would be so high if we installed a member of the Amish community as the next Secretary of Energy. ;-)
On a more serious note, I am not anti-capitalism or anti-American. But as citizens first and foremost of the Kingdom of God, we must be responsible in the way we use our resources. We must seek to find a balance between the extremes of materialistic consumerism, the Communist Manifesto, and the lifestyle of the Amish. It is a life-long struggle.
(I guess that's more than you were looking for.)

ACU would never do that. :)

I am a fan of saving wilderness, however, I am disturbed at how we save our wild places at the expense of other countries wildlife. It is as if we think that the other oil does not cause ecological issues where it is drilled.

We should tax gas to 5 or 6 dollars a gallon, then we could pay for the damage we cause by using it and people (inluding myself.. maybe two hybrids instead of just one, maybe commute together 3 times a week instead of just once) might change. their habits
